Devenish

Overview
This small neat township is 26km from Benalla. The town's beatifully restored Railway Hotel is as much as a hub of the community as it was in 1883 when both the nostalgic general store, butchers shop and the hotel were freqeunted by the many farm traders with horse and dray.
While a visit to the hotel is definitely worthwhile you can also take a nostaligic look at the agricultural musuem located behind the post and rail fencing opposte the hotel. The picturesque picnic grounds at the Bicentennial Park offer barbeque facilities, a picnic shelter and a children's playground.

Historic photos dating back to the turn of the century show how popular it was with its rail link, and watering hole for the many farm traders with horse and dray. Back then it boasted a railway station, two hotels and a bustling main street. The town's beautifully restored Railway Hotel is as much as a hub of the community as it was in 1883.
