Mount Buller

Overview

Mt Buller Alpine Resort is 250 kilometres north east of Melbourne and rises to an altitude of 1804 metres above sea level. The Resort embodies some of Victoria's most spectacular alpine and sub-alpine terrain. It offers 263 hectares of ski trails as well as wide open spaces above the tree line, with the longest trail being 2.5 kilometres.

History

According to records, Mt Buller was named in honour of Charles Buller of the Colonial Office and was first ascended by Europeans in 1853.

Seventy one years later, the Ski Club of Victoria was formed and a small group of enthusiastic members made their first trip to the mountain. Nine years later the Club built its first hut on the Mountain and in 1946 a road was built to the fledgling village.

Now the resort is one of Australia's leading visitor destinations, attracting more than 300,000 visitors in 120 days of skiing and some 50,000 visitors in summer.
