Numurkah

Overview
The sizeable Goulburn Valley Highway town of Nurmurka sits alongside Broken Creek, just 25 kilometres north of Shepparton. Irrigation helps keep the fruit trees, dairy herds and vines content and you can sample the local fare at a number of regional outlets including varietal table and fortified wines at Monichino's, 8 kilometres north, and at the Kraft cheese factory at nearby Strathmerton.
History
Squatters first moved into the district in the late 1830s and although land selectors followed 10 years later, rural development didn't really kick into gear until 700 World War I veterans took advantage of the Murray Valley Soldier Settlement program in the early 1920s.
