Overview
Nestled at the foot of the magnificent Tallarook Ranges, the quiet township of Tallarook supports abundant wildlife and farming properties.
The Tallarook State Forest covers an area of 1500 hectares and is a popular recreation area for camping, hang gliding, rock climbing, car and motorcycling touring, horse riding and bushwalking. Mt Hickey, also know as Mount Tallarook, is the highest point and offers extensive views.
History
Located on the northern slopes of the Great Dividing Range, Tallarook land was once central to the territories of the Goulburn Aboriginal tribes, in whose language Tallarook means ‘call of the wattle birds’.
