Violet Town

Overview
Violet Town is a small, quiet, picturesque town located on Honeysuckle Creek near the northern foothills of the Strathbogie Ranges. It is a creative and artistic community, home to a renowned and unique community market on the second Saturday of each month.
The village has grown round Honeysuckle Creek and the floral theme is enhanced by such street names as Primrose, Lilac and Tulip. Violet Town is a beautiful location for filming.
History
The first known European in the vicinity was Major Mitchell who, in 1836, camped by some ponds where wild violets were in flower, naming the spot Violet Ponds.
In 1838 the government laid out a village at 'Violet Creek' with lots going on sale the following year. The intention was to develop 'Houses of Entertainment' to serve the growing traffic 'on the road between Port Phillip and Yass'. On this basis the town could lay claim to being one of the earliest settlements in what is now Victoria.
Most of Violet Town's settlement occurred when the Royal Mail Hotel was established in 1846. The village then emerged around this nucleus but the town has been bypassed and become a pleasant, sleepy settlement.
